Government Relations

The most vital function of the New Mexico Retail Association is as the advocate for retailers with government decision makers at local, state and national.

The NMRA is the voice of retailers across the state going before state legislators, before federal lawmakers and anywhere public opinion has an impact on the business interests of retailers. The NMRA works with the State Legislature year-round, as well as interacts with administrators of agencies, bureaus and departments. When issues arise and government encroaches into the conduct of business, whether by law or regulation, the NMRA fills the need for a strong voice articulating the position and needs of retailers.

The strength of the NMRA is the ability for its members to speak with one voice through the association and lawmakers listen. The NMRA is one of few organizations that has enjoyed the legislative and regulatory accomplishments, as have retailers. Among the many issues your association has tackled include: minimum wage increases, workers’ compensation, unemployment compensation, simplifying sales tax collection, solar power credits, pharmacy manager regulation, business license reform, tax reform, income and corporate taxes, , labor laws and consumer protection.
